The Centre for Tunnel Studies (CETU) is a technical body of the French Ministry of Transport and a public resource centre providing expertise at the service of the tunnelling and underground space community. Among the CETU’s primary concerns are safety, asset management and assisting the underground sector in achieving more sustainable practices.

The CETU is involved at every stage of a tunnel’s life cycle, from the design and construction stages through to operation, covering both structural and equipment aspects.

The CETU’s expertise covers all types of transport tunnels and other underground spaces:

•    Advice and assistance for the entire profession: major public project owners, operators, engineering firms, contractors, academic and research communities, etc.

•    Research, experimentation, development of technical and regulatory standards, formulation of guidelines, covering structural aspects, equipment, operation and safety.

•    A strong presence at national and international level, within specialised networks and international associations.
